They say where there is good, there will always be evil.
Among the crowd, you may never know who may be walking around with intentions so vile and gruesome you are made to question the darkness human beings are capable of. They will come up to you like sheep masquerading the wolf within.
Let’s talk about some of the most vicious serial killers the world has ever seen.
Ted Bundy
So you’re just walking through the parking lot, and out of nowhere, you meet a man who appears to be injured and waiting for help. But away from the injury, your eyes meet him, and you’re taken aback by how welcoming and charming he is.
Well, this man needs no introduction. Known for his charming personality and killer good looks, Ted Bundy was famous for alluring young girls, not into a relationship or a fling of some sort, but into their deaths. Ted has been estimated to have murdered at least 30 young women across the United States.
What was so terrifying about Bundy was how easily he would have his victims sympathize with him. He would build connections easily by passing himself through as an injured man. Ted was eventually caught and executed.
Aileen Wuornos
Aileen was a notorious serial killer that killed seven men in Florida in 1989 and 1990. She attempted to justify her killings by saying that she acted out of self-defense during her encounters with these men, most of whom engaged with her sexually.
Aileen had a very dark childhood, which contributed to her deteriorating sanity. Her father committed suicide serving time in prison for molesting a child, while her mother had abandoned her at an early age, leaving her to be raised by her grandparents. Aileen had no remorse for her actions, which was evident in her final interview taken a day before her execution.
Jeffery Dahmer
You might have heard of this man from a notable American TV series. Dahmer was a serial killer and sex offender that wreaked havoc between the years 1978 and 1991. He collectively murdered and dismembered 17 men and boys.
Among his actions were acts of cannibalism, necrophilia, and preserving the body parts of his victims as trophies.
Dahmer spent multiple life terms in prison and was later murdered by a fellow inmate. When asked why?, Christopher Scarver, his murderer, simply said, “God told me to do it.”
John Wayne Gacy
We’ve all been invited to a birthday party with a clown performer, haven’t we? Clowns are supposed to spread joy and happiness. John Wayne Gacy used to dress up as “Pogo the Clown” for fundraising events and parades.
However, from spreading smiles, he eventually moved to spread terror. He attested under suspicion in 1978 when a 15-year-old boy who was last seen with him went missing.
This wasn’t the only time Gacy had families pointing fingers at him. Only this time, the authorities had to intervene. Soon, the police were granted a search warrant for Gacy’s home, which reeked of 30 bodies buried in a four-foot crawl space underneath his home upon inspection.
Gacy was convicted of 33 counts of murder, which also included rape and torture. He was put down by lethal injection in 1994.
Jack the Ripper
He is known as “Jack the Ripper,” a name given to him because, frankly, no one actually knows who he is. Jack the Ripper was behind one of the oldest and most maniacal murder sprees the world has seen. He appeared in London’s Whitechapel district in the year 1888 and murdered five women who turned out to be sex workers. Police had proposed the speculation that the killer was, in fact, a surgeon, a butcher, or, at the very least, someone skilled with a scalpel.
Jack the Ripper had mocked those trying to catch him by writing letters to them, outlining the acts.
To this very day, Jack’s real identity remains a mystery.
There is another serial killer running rampant in Bob Kelly’s book, Chicago Detective Jack Fallon in the Mystery of the Exotic Escort Murders. Join Fallon as he tries to uncover the truth behind the unprecedented murder of some escorts in Chi-City.
